If you have been a visitor to our blog in the past, you know very well just how much we love our little island.  We revel in traveling up and down the highways and byways just to see what we can catch with our lens.  Today we are taking you to a very familiar place to us as we spent many years living here, driving these roads and making footsteps on these old sidewalks.  It is, of course, the little city of Victoria.  Located at the southern tip of the island, it is where all the excitement of big city living comes together without losing that small town feel.  It’s easily the friendliest city you could ever visit.

It’s still a place where joggers actually smile while they run, where strangers chat on park benches and lovers stroll the beaches holding hands.  And the city doesn’t end just because the road does.

With the pacific ocean as your backyard, all you need for a bigger playground is something that floats, or if you’re the adventurous type, a bathing suit!

Unique houses dot the shoreline,  many of them pointing telescopes out the front windows to get a closer look at the most spectacular canvas, nature.

This is one of the most iconic homes in Victoria, in my opinion.  Its copper-like exterior faces out to Clover point, one of the busiest places for those who love to sit and look out over the ocean and breathe in the clean, salty air.  It takes Sunday afternoon to a whole new level of awesome.  But truly the best part of this cozy victorian city is that you just never know when a new friend will pop up…

Often cities, as beautiful as they are in their own ways, can feel cold and impersonal and it can sometimes be hard to find a friendly face in the crowd.  I don’t know if it’s the spectacular views, the victorian charm, the cool, salt-infused breezes or the sunshine that frequently sits atop everyone’s shoulders,  but this place just seems to fill your heart with bubbles.  I guess it must just be that it’s easy to find joy and spread it around when your heart is full of happy bubbles.

Or happy rocks. Why not?

There’s myriad things to see and do in Victoria to fit everyone’s passions from shopping to whale watching, but what makes this place so very special is that at the end of a busy day, you can walk to the edge of the earth and find your own little quiet spot to refill your heart with joy.

The top picture is everything; calming and breathtakingly gorgeous. May I ask where it is taken from? Hints of tints of pink are lovely.

    • Hi Marilee! Thanks for stopping by to see us here, and for your wonderful comments! That photograph was captured from the shores of Victoria looking south toward Washington State. It was likely shot near Clover Point, going by memory. Thanks again for your terrific comments, we hope to see you here again soon!
