The Boathouse

Once in a very long while, you stumble into someone’s life and instantly become “old friends”.  You know, the type of friend that makes you feel that you can share just about anything.  There is an instant connection, and in minutes you know more about each other than most friends know over decades.  These moments, all too few, are precious and rare. And when they do happen, they remind us that magic really is at work all around us.  While Mr. Toad and I were out the other day in one of our favourite places to unleash the unruly little dragon that is our drone, we had the absolute pleasure of meeting our newest old friend, Doug.

One step into Doug’s awesome self-described “man-cave” reveals that he knows how to create a little magic of his own!  Once the busy owner of a thriving local business with his wife Darlene, Doug spends his days adding all things nautical and whimsical to his boathouse and happily sharing it with everyone who happens to be walking by.

As I sat sipping a lovely glass of wine and dangling over the pacific ocean in a suspended basket chair with my toes almost touching the water,  Doug revelled over the hours spent building everything himself from tiny floating docks, a beer cooler that doubles as a table, a hidden big screen t.v., a peek-a-boo floor window, and a gorgeous tiki corner with paddle chairs, to a second story with a little bistro table that would easily rival any of the local restaurants for the best view.

Oh, and of course, there’s the boat!  Not just any boat, but a fully-loaded 2018 Cutwater 302 Coupe.  I must admit, I don’t know much about boats except I love to be on them, but this beauty has some trinkets that just speak for themselves.  Powered by two gnarly 300hp outboard motors, this boat can do 50mph.  Cast your line and catch dinner, then cook it up on the built-in barbeque!  There isn’t one wasted inch of space on this vessel, it even has seats that extend off the sides.  It’s loaded with all things technological, which can be controlled by Doug’s phone with a simple app!  The cabin is beautifully crafted with warm wooden features and utility areas are elegantly concealed.  This boat is….wow.  Just, wow.  Check it out for yourself here!

There is just no way to describe all the imagination and love that went into creating this very unique house for this very deserving boat, so take a tour yourself in the 360* photo below.  Just be careful of the critters overhead, you don’t want to make the octopus grumpy!

We reluctantly left our new old friend with a promise to get together again, this time with Doug’s lovely wife Darlene, and perhaps take a ride on the coolest boat with the coolest house in Genoa Bay.  One thing is for sure, we just have to point our lens at this beautifully eclectic place again, when I’m sure Doug will have conjured up even more magical things to find.  He says it’s mostly for the kids who visit, but really, aren’t we all just kids in a place like this?

Thanks for popping by and spending some time at Genoa Bay with us.  Our favourite times are spent with good friends, in person or on the interwebs, and we appreciate you all!

Until next time!
