Once again we explore the inherent beauty found in things full of rust, now forgotten and forlorn. This is one of our loves here at Toad Hollow. There is simply so much character and personality in these unused vehicles, and you truly have to wonder about the stories that the rusty metal holds secret within. Today’s feature photographs were taken at different locations at different times of the year here in the Cowichan Valley on Vancouver Island, and they both tell a distinct story in the context of a frame.
We’ve noticed a wonderful trend over the recent years and I am not sure if that’s because more people are doing it, or we’ve just started to notice. This trend is the repurposement of old vehicles as yard art. When placed carefully on a property, they not only leave you wondering about what the old vehicles life was like, they also tell you a little about the people who have given them a second life as a decoration. This old Chevrolet truck is one of my favorite finds of yard art, complete with intact headlights and an animals skull lying in front of it. Being half-submerged in foliage, the face of this truck peers back out, almost beckoning you to spend time checking out the wonderful details. Talk about character!
This particular scene calls me like a siren’s song each day as I pass it on my daily commute. This used car lot has been around in the valley here for years now, and I just love how they’ve added these three old trucks to the yard for character. Make no mistake, if you are looking for a used car on the island and you have seen this before, you will not forget it! If we were independantly wealthy I would love nothing more than to buy these old trucks and turn them into modern retro-rods and drive them around proudly. All they really need is a quick tune-up and a wax job. OK, well, maybe they need a little more than that, but for those who love to behold these old classics they certainly have the chance for a second life.
Do you see rusty vehicles in yards where you live? We’d love to hear your stories of finds like this in your area, please do feel free to share your comments with everyone below. And, thanks for visiting us here in our humble corner of the internet today, we really do appreciate it.
