It has been five years since last we featured the incredible Kinsol Trestle here at The Hollow, and quite honestly I can’t think why. This massive wood structure forms a very important part of our history, as is evidenced by the cost and effort the community has gone through to completely restore it. At one point in time vandals had damaged it so badly many thought its days were numbered, yet here we are.
To read all about the storied history of this trestle, please visit our previous blog post “A Bridge Of Hope” where we discuss the amazing background behind the trestle and it’s subsequent restoration and grand opening to the public.
Today, you will find islanders and visitors alike visiting the site to enjoy time spent with our local nature, our landscapes, the wonderful Koksilah River, hiking, biking, picnicking… these all just scratch the proverbial surface of what is to be discovered at the trestle.
We love it for its rich history and what it means to our community, and we love it for its true elegance and grandeur as it stands tall amongst the trees of Vancouver Island, seeming to reach for the very heavens. It’s presence is noteworthy, something that cannot be missed if you encounter it. Your mind races as you try to imagine steam locomotives of yesteryear laden heavy with lumber, slowly making their way across a span that must have felt like a series of matchsticks haphazardly plunked together to form the structure.
Nothing could be further from the truth. In reality, it is a solid structure, one that gives you unparalleled views and perspectives of the valley it calls home to. As you walk across it, it feels so solid, as if it rises from the hills and mountains that it inhabits.
So today we find ourselves revisiting Kinsol Trestle with a renewed sense of love and admiration. In light of this, we find ourselves encouraging everyone to visit it in person to take in its magnificence. Hug a trestle today, we say.
Thank you for taking the time to visit us here at The Hollow today, we sincerely appreciate it. As always, we love to hear from all our visitors, so please feel free to leave us any comments you may have below.
