With spring finally here and summer just around the corner, it’s time to once again start planning our visits to the local car shows that seem to spring up on Vancouver Island, from the northern tip, to the big city of Victoria in the south.  In today’s post we’re heading back to the “Warmlands Show n Shine 2014” car show held annually in Duncan, BC where we’re going to take a look at a beauty that truly does have legs.  A classic Ford Hot Rod.

In March of 1983 a Texas Trio named ZZ Top released an album called “Eliminator”.  The album cover and subsequent videos that seemed to play endlessly on MTV all featured a custom 1933 Ford Coupe conceived of and commissioned by Billy Gibbons of the band.  You can read the story of the album and the car here on this Wikipedia page.

The music was southern blues based rock ‘n roll, some of the finest written and recorded from the era if this is to your taste.  The car soon became an icon of the times, almost being considered another band member for many years.  It’s legend remains strong today in enthusiast circles, and when we came across this similar Ford coupe Hot Rod at the car show last year it was all I could do to contain my excitement.

The grill on these babies are utterly distinctive.  The shape and contour really speak to the era, an era when hot rodding was just being born on the streets and highways of the USA.  With this project car, the chrome was exquisite, almost causing me to run back to the car to grab my sunglasses just so I could focus on the beauty I was beholding!

As I’ve stated countless times before, it’s the fine little details that make these cars so special.  Each of the features on this car were undoubtedly considered carefully, sourced with love, and installed with an attention to perfection.  All these elements converge in a ride like this to ensure it is truly one-of-a-kind.  A statement to the personality of the owner and the era from which it came.

Car shows are much more than a collection of cool cars all gathered in one location.  They are also a gathering of enthusiasts from all age groups and all walks of life.  If you’re looking for something to do this coming summer, we can think of no better way to spend an afternoon.  And if you happen to be on Vancouver Island, look out for your favorite Toads patrolling the show and photographing some of the coolest rides on display!

Thank you so much for your visit to The Hollow today, we really appreciate it!  As always, we love to hear from all our visitors so please feel free to leave us any comments you may have below!
