As the holiday season approaches many of us begin to focus on home and family.  Time seems to morph and change as people hurry and rush about, buying presents and ingredients for big dinners.  Things at work tend to slow down and as the end of the month comes so does a heightened sense of love and peace both for our immediate family as well as the world in general.  It’s a wonderful time of year.

All of this reminds me of home.  The days are short and the warm ambiance of twinkling candles and chandeliers bathes our world in beautiful light, casting deep shadows in the corners and creating an inviting feel.  The shots featured in today’s blog were captured near the end of summer as I walked around a district in Victoria well-known for its heritage and character.  The way the light dappled against the front of the house accenting some of the unique features that make each home special, mesmerized me.  The bay window and other architectural details really add to the overall quaint appearance.  No two homes are alike, and each beckons you in.

As different as each others fingerprints, these houses reflect the personal taste and style of those who call them home.  An underlying commonality is found in them all, but at the heart of the home each is completely different.  No matter what your faith, what you believe in, there’s something at this time of year for everyone.  It’s a time when we all look beyond ourselves towards our neighbors and the world as a whole.  A sense of togetherness and community takes priority over all else.

We can think of no better way to be.

Thank you so much for your kind visit today.  We really love to hear from all our visitors so please feel free to leave us any comments you may have.  Until next time, my friends!

Many times, what people say on their blog sounds a little over the top, as they might be stretching the truth a little just to make themselves appear to be better than they really are. But having interacted with you guys for several years now, when you say things like, “A sense of togetherness and community takes priority over all else,” I believe it. Best wishes to the Toads in this holiday season! May the Lord bless you with peace, joy and love and keep you just the way you are! Thanks for being here!

    • Jim, we are overwhelmed by your kindness today, my good good friend! All your support and friendship over the years has meant so much to us here and finding your heartfelt thoughts this morning on our blog has really made our entire holiday season. May the Lord bless you and yours this year as well, kind sir, may your move be smooth and easy, and we sincerely hope you guys settle into your new home there. I can’t imagine a world without your friendship in it, Jim, thank you so much for everything!! Best wishes from Mr. and Mrs. Toad to the entire Denham family!

Both you and Mrs Toad have a real ability to express feelings and ideas in ways that are genuine and sincere. Jim Denham is exactly right in what he said earlier and he says it better than I ever could. I wish you both great joy this Chritstmastide and I look forward to hearing more from you in 2014. If only we weren’t separated by an ocean and a continent!

    • Oh wow, Andy, those heartfelt comments mean the world to us here, they really really do! I really wish we were closer too, I just know we’d have a blast running around together with our cameras, we sure do share this passion. It’s been such a huge honor and privilege for us to have you as a friend all these years, we’re looking forward to what 2014 will bring in!
