Now that 2012 is firmly in our rear-view mirror and 2013 is in front of us, there’s nothing like hitting the open road and putting the pedal to the metal!  Thanks for joining us today as we roll into the new year with a blast down the highway of life by checking out several stunning Corvettes.

This post is a continuation of our photoblog series “Vette to Victoria” that features a collection of great photographs we captured during the long weekend event Vette to Victoria, hosted by the Victoria Corvette Club in the spring of 2012.  So, let’s jump right into the new year in a cloud of tire smoke, shall we?

To the avid Corvette enthusiast, there is simply no such thing as a bad Corvette.  They just don’t exist.  Each generation, and each year within the generations, bring their own unique personality and flair to the road and track.  With all that being said, there are indeed several monikers in the Corvette world that stop the true fan dead in their tracks.  The Z06 is one of these, for sure.  In 1963 Corvette chief engineer Zora Arkus-Duntov convinced the brass at Chevrolet that the Corvette was here, and it was here to stay and win races.  The Z06 package was first created in this year to offer as a package all the best go-fast parts that were available at the time, turning what was already considered to be a formidable car into one that made other racers nervous at the track.

As the generations passed by and advancements were made in technology and engineering, the team at the Corvette group decided to bring back the Z06 badge in the form of a fire-breathin’ edition of the iconic hot-rod.  2001 saw the return of the fabled production code, and with it all the power and excitement that could be found in the platform at the time.

While we were at the show over the long weekend, we came across this gorgeous C6 rendition of a Z06.  The fabulous colors in the paint, the ZR1 wheels and the black stripe that runs over the hood all came together to create this car that sure looks to me like it’s doing about 300mph standing still.  And it does it with aplomb and character.

As the 60’s carried on and the Corvette name became synonymous with winning, subtle changes to the body style were introduced that today stand as testaments to the engineering and personality of the times.  In 1963, and for one year only, they made the now famous split-window versions of this generation car, very popular with collectors today.  1966 saw the first round of 427 cubic inch big-blocks rolling off the assembly line. This particular model on display at the show appears to be sporting the 427 hood, and with few other details an exact determination of its year escapes me.  Regardless, it was a stunning example of a C2 Corvette.

It was also about this time that the Chevrolet Rally Wheel become popular in car circles.  The wheels on this car appear to be genuine examples from here, and I actually had a set just like these on my ’71 Nova that had a beefed up 350 in it.  The wheels are simple and clean and really did a great job of accenting the styling and lines.

No matter what your taste in cars gravitates towards, there was something for everyone to enjoy at the show over this long weekend in 2012.  If you prefer cars that feature the latest technologies, materials and designs, the latest generation cars were there to please.  Or, if you preferred to get your iron around the parking lot by employing as many cubic inches as possible, you’d find something to tickle your fancy.  Either way I can honestly say that Mrs. Toad and I enjoyed every moment of the weekend in both discovering the fabulous cars and their background stories, as well as meeting some of the nicest and most passionate folks you’d ever have the pleasure of coming across.

And on that note, let’s drop this baby into gear and fully take on 2013 and all it has to offer!

Thank you so much for your visit today, we really do appreciate it.  As always, we really love to hear from all our visitors and encourage everyone to leave us any comments you may have!
