Woo Woo!!  Hi everyone, welcome back to The Hollow today!  We’re continuing our latest photoblog series together, “The Toad’s Tonka Toys” by hopping aboard the train and traveling the rails.  We’re back at the BC Forest Discovery Centre today, enjoying a brief train ride.

Today’s shots are not HDR photographs.  We captured these images while riding the train and with all the motion HDR photography is not well suited.  But, we’re still thrilled to share these with you all and hope you enjoy them!

It was a beautiful, warm day and the gentle breeze from riding the train was really a welcome relief.  As we left the station on our short ride, we came around our first corner and headed into the dense forests that are so typical here on Vancouver Island.

Over 100 acres of beautiful BC land make up the facility, and the curators here have taken great care to display as many interesting and historically pertinent artifacts as possible.  The white speeder shed in the left portion of the frame here is a detailed subject coming in a later post.

Many of the buildings and artifacts on display here were moved, and in some cases they were moved pretty significant distances.  I am not sure if this is the case for this building, but it is likely.  As we turned a corner on our ride, this building suddenly came into view and the wonderful textures and colors really beckoned to be photographed.

We’re coming around a corner, ducking back under the cover of the lush forest growth at the Discovery Centre.  The train ride here at the museum is definitely one of the biggest highlights for a visit, and we really enjoyed this experience.

As the train meandered the track, you’d come to periodic clearings that had great items on display.  The logging industry is not for the faint of heart, and the equipment used is frequently made of metals with sharp edges.  We find these items provide an endless source of interest for us.

As we round one of the final corners before landing at our destination, the experience of riding on an old-fashioned train like this is not something easily forgotten.  Next on our list is the picnic area and there we find so many artifacts, vehicles and items that are all from the logging industry, and all create wonderful items to photograph.  This place is truly a photographers paradise.

We really hope you’ve been enjoying our latest series, and we thank you for taking the time to visit!  As always, we encourage everyone to leave us any comments you may have as we truly love to hear from all our visitors.
