It’s always bittersweet to wrap up a photoblog series, we really enjoy shooting and producing them to share with everyone.  Today, we finish our latest series “The Toads Visit Ladysmith” by finding a wonderful old character home to visit, pulling out a rocking chair, and sitting a spell on the porch.

Barely noticeable from the street as it was hidden by the lush vegetation that is so predominant here on Vancouver Island, this beautiful old character home was a wonderful find.  The porch is so inviting and the dormer is a throwback to older times with the scalloped siding.  The weathering on the roof, siding and details adds so much interest to the scene, further creating the feeling of typical living on the island.  We just absolutely love this place.

I can just picture the children from past generations peering out this window, into the front yard, and watching the hubbub as it unfolds in town.  Always at the ready to hide behind the curtains if anyone notices them, this place makes the perfect perch to watch life in town from a safe distance.

Brightly colored roses adorn the bush just by the gate.  A wonderful contrast and juxtaposition to the weathering and worn paint on the house in the background.  It’s almost as if the roses make you stop to admire their natural beauty, and in doing so you can’t help but start to take notice of all the wonderful details that are evident in the house.

Everything constantly marches toward chaos, it’s the way of the universe.  But in this chaos, there is distinct beauty if you know to look for it.  This picture immediately takes me back to being a kid and seeing my mom on the porch yelling “hey, you kids, get out of that garden, put that cat down, get in here, wash your hands, DINNER IS READY!”  We always hated to stop playing at the end of a busy day, but there was comfort in coming into the familiar confines of home.  Many people might see a weathered and worn subject in this picture, I see comfort and safety.

Beauty is all around us, if we take the time to look for it and take it in.

Thanks so much for following along this week, we had so much fun bringing this series to you!  As always, we encourage everyone to leave us comments as we truly love to hear from all our visitors!

With a little work, that house could be awesome! Love the rose pic, too!

Old comforts may be sore to the eye but not to the soul. Nice shots my friend.
