We are about to take an adventure together and look at something so very unique, rare and dare I say, beautiful. Through my travels in life I have met quite a few great people and made new friends. One of these people just happens to own something that is so rare we can almost guarantee you probably haven’t seen one before.
We’d like to introduce you to #486.
We met #486 recently at a shoot we’ve been planning for months and months. Just waiting for the right weather conditions; you see she never travels in the rain… just waiting to find the right location… finally the heavens aligned and everything came together.
The entire extensive gallery of 33 high-resolution HDR images can be found at #486 – 2009 Pontiac Solstice GXP Coupe.
I have spent a bit of time doing some research on this exotic sports-car and have found that they only manufactured the coupe edition of the Pontiac Solstice for 2 years; 2009 and 2010. In 2010, they produced 12.
In total, 781 coupes were manufactured, with 78 making their way to Canada. Of those, only 64 were the turbo-charged GXP edition. And of those, only 15 had the 5-speed manual transmission.
So, what happens when you start with such a great platform, and then make some extremely tasteful, yet absolutely purposeful modifications to such a car? You end up with something that is truly one-of-a-kind. Something without peer, and without comparison.
This car wears a wonderful coat of “Wicked” Ruby Red Metallic paint, commonly referred to as “Jewel Merlot”. This serves to accent the beautiful lines and bring the eye right to some of the key ingredients that make this super-car stand out in a crowd.
The considerable list of modifications include, but is not limited to:
- Genuine GM Removable Soft Top (still new in bag)
- Auto-Art Custom YYC Rims
- BF Goodrich G-Force Tires
- Custom DVD Stereo System
- Significant Engine Turbo Upgrades
- Custom Solstice 260km/h Gauge Face – “Coupe – #486” With LED Back Lighting
- Solo Performance GXP-Mach Cat Back Exhaust System
- Trifecta Full Custom ECU Programming with Select-a-Tune (Cruise Control Button)
- Eibach Sportline Spring Set Front & Rear
- GM Roadster HID Headlight & Fog Lamp Kits
Pontiac truly outdid themselves with this car. Living in North America, we’ve all seen the Solstice convertibles around as they have proven to be a very popular car. And for good reason; reasonably priced with great performance and handling, these are the perfect ingredients for a popular and desirable convertible roadster. The GXP edition of the convertible Solstice is a much rarer entity, and when seen always instantly turns my head.
#486 goes way beyond that, however. Well into the realm of super-car status, and deservingly so I must add, this incredible sports-car exudes power, class and grace. All the fine touches add so much to enjoy, this car exhibits the best of all worlds. Reliable, comfortable, drop-dead gorgeous and outrageously fast, it tends to take your breath away at first glance… extended viewings make the heart race.
This car is not something to be trifled with.
Cradled in the lap of luxury, the miles tick away under the wheels. Being behind the wheel gives the driver a strong sense of being in command; the world is your oyster to tame with a few careful flicks of the wrist, and liberal application of the accelerator pedal.
That is, if you have the nerve and courage to try to hang on.
Never far from the ground, the sense of motion can be profound. The tolerances here are minimal, further giving the driver the sense of being connected to both the car and the road in front of you.
The Heartbeat of America, indeed. Technologically advanced, built for strength, longevity and an abundance of power, this power-plant is ready and waiting, almost anticipating your next move. Again, we see that function and beauty can co-exist, and do so with grace. No detail too small, no performance mark set too low… this car means business, and it means it now.
As our adventure today comes to a close, we find ourselves reflecting on the heritage and history of great sports-cars that brought us here. Several key elements really and truly need to come together, and they need to exist in perfect harmony for the label to be affixed.
We very much enjoyed spending a few hours on this day with #486 and our friends. When the passion for true sports-cars is so evident in a group of people, and you have such a fabulous subject to take in, the time passes quickly. You’re left with a strong sense of time well spent, and a certain looking forward to getting a chance to do it again.
