Wow, I have to admit our swamp was hit with one very nasty flu last week.  I am very sorry for our absence during this time but am happy to report that everyone here is feeling much better and we are back at it full-time here at The Hollow again!!  We missed you all very much and are looking forward to ramping up again to full speed here in Photographyland!

During our Christmas break this year, most of you know that we went to the resort we honeymooned at for a break.  We had such a great time, the current plan is to do that again this coming Christmas.  We’ve got 9 fantastic new landscape photos to share with you all from this trip…

As we approached the resort on a windy old logging highway we encountered several spots where the brooding clouds on the horizon created a prefect synergy with the ocean scene to create a very dramatic image.

We were utterly taken by the way the sun was poking through the dark clouds in spots creating rays of sunlight that were draping the ocean scene.

The mountains you see in the distance are actually situated in the United States.  I believe they form part of the Olympic Mountain Range, but I could most certainly be wrong there.  Regardless, they make for a fantastic backdrop to ocean scenes such as these.

A large freighter is seen in the distance here.  These freighters go back and forth between the Port of Vancouver and China, bringing in goods from overseas for our local markets and stores.  This photo was taken on Christmas Day, traffic was light on the ocean this day, but these folks were obviously out in it…  I guess they don’t get time off for their families in this business…

The curve of the inlet makes for a beautiful subject for landscape photography.  There are small homes peppered on the coast line, and as night falls lights begin to twinkle from these homes as you take in the scene in front of you.  It’s quite a magical place.

This tree is absolutely special to us.  It was the first photograph I took when we were married on our honeymoon, and every time we come back, we get the same cottage again with the same view…  and I am thrilled to say the tree is still there and has not changed one iota since we first met.  We love this scene, and this particular photograph really turned out well, it fully captured the feeling and essence of this time and place.

The final scene of this series finds us peeking through some trees to see into the distance as Vancouver Island winds its way north.  Inlets and bays are everywhere and the scenery is largely pristine and unmolested.  It is truly some of the most beautiful land in the world.  This is where my sister chose to live her life and her spirit and love of nature remains here and will forever.

Thanks so much for visiting us today, we hope you enjoyed this landscape series.  Please feel free to leave any comments you may have, we love to hear from you all! 🙂

  1. That’s a lovely place! I can see why you picked it for your honeymoon. Nice treatment on the skies and clouds, too.

Hang Ten? Gotta love the caption! Great images.

    • Thanks John!! I guess I forgot to mention the important bit here; this area of our coast is a hot spot for surfers!! Upon reflection, I didn’t mention that in the original blog so it’s kinda outta context a bit. Thanks for mentioning that John! And THANKS for visiting and commenting my good friend! Great to see you here today.
