This is St. Francis Xavier Church, the oldest building in Mill Bay on Vancouver Island, BC, Canada.  Built in 1887 to serve the French Canadian workers, this church was built on donated land.

My wife and I came across this church very late on a Sunday afternoon while we were out on a photo shoot together.  As we came upon it on the road, we knew right away we had to pull over and grab a few images, it was late in the afternoon and the light was good.  It was very, very cold out.

The stained glass windows struck us immediately as we walked up to the church with the sunlight pouring through behind them, really bringing the color and beauty out.

Again, we see the gorgeous colors of the original stained glass.  We also get a great view of the back of the church with all the beautiful textures and details that accompany this.

This is my favorite shot of the series, and what a way to close this blog out for you today.  I love the full length landscape shot of the entire building complete and perfect with all her imperfections.

There are countless examples of beautiful old and character enriched buildings on our lovely island, and we are looking forward to bringing them all to you as time passes.  Thank you for taking the time to visit today, please feel free to leave a comment!

WOW!!!!!!! I love shooting old churches, these are spectacular!!!

  2. Beautiful shots of the house of the Lord. Just the right amount of HDR too. The first one in the series is my favorite I think. I like these shots. Would be fun to see your wife’s shots too.

    Keep being creative and blessed!

    • Thank you so much for taking the time to view and comment today! I really appreciate that. My wife is more of a scene composer and I do the technical bits with the camera, we are definitely a team. Really appreciate the support my friend.
