Today’s blog is a deviation from the normal for me. Today we have birds instead of old buildings processed in HDR. While we were on our holidays at the resort, we were visited daily by a family of Steller’s Jays that came by every morning for breakfast. They were very bold and I was able to get within 6 feet or so to capture a few frames.
Our deck at the resort had its own completely private hot tub, which is located just off frame here. As we enjoyed the tub in the brisk winters air, the birds were landing just a few feet away from us, sometimes on the roof overlooking us in the tub, sometimes on the fence just 2 or 3 feet away from us. We were amazed at how brave they truly were.
The best part was watching them try to stuff as many crackers into their beaks as they could before launching. Sometimes they’d pick one up, only to have another one drop. The little feather friend would not forget about the dropped ones, and always returned to the exact spot to pick up the fallen cracker! Amazing to watch.
This lucky capture was taken just as the Jay was taking off, with a beak full of goodies!
The entire gallery of 11 new images of these little friends can be found on our gallery. We hope you enjoy this series today. Tomorrow’s post will be once again of HDR processed buildings. Please stay tuned…
